On November 1, 2005, "It is expected that by 2009, 35% of users will abandon landline phones, and 70% of voice services will come from mobile communications," Dr. Zhu Xuetian from Beijing Research Institute of China Telecom expressed concerns about the voice services of fixed network operators to NetEase Technology today.
Zhu Xuetian believes that traditional fixed network operators must take advantage of the increasing user demand for data to vigorously develop broadband data services.
Judging from the data released by the Ministry of Information Industry last week, the gap between the number of mobile phone and landline users has further widened.
As of the end of September, there were over 377 million mobile phone users in China, already exceeding the number of fixed phone users by over 32 million, and the growth rate of mobile phone users was also higher than that of fixed phones.
The data shows that in the first 9 months of this year, the number of fixed phone users increased by 34.019 million, with an average monthly increase of 3.77 million. During the same period, the number of mobile phone users increased by 43.1 million, with an average monthly increase of 4.78 million.
The total number of telephone users in China has exceeded 723 million. The penetration rate of fixed phones nationwide has reached 26.6 per hundred people, and the penetration rate of mobile phones has reached 29.1 per hundred people.
Hu Weiyi, the deputy secretary-general of the China Institute of Communications, said that mobile communication services have become a strong engine for the growth of China's information and communication industry. The proportion of mobile communication service revenue in the total telecom service revenue has reached 44.6%.
